Travis Goff

amavi_pepperbridge_112In many places, partner Travis Goff is known as the face of Amavi Cellars and Pepper Bridge Winery.  It is her life’s work to introduce the world to the Walla Walla Valley.  As the daughter of managing partner Ray Goff, one might think Travis was earmarked for her current position of Sales and Marketing Director, when in fact the path she took was a somewhat circuitous one.

Fiercely independent from a young age, Travis travelled frequently without her parents to participate in horseback riding competitions across the country. These trips fostered in her a love for adventure and travel and most importantly, a curiosity in people.

As a young adult, she racked up a wide range of  experience— from promoting nightclubs, selling beer and throwing raves, to working at newspapers and managing a small law firm.  Though her occupations were diverse, Travis found a common thread and something she was passionate about—relating to and connecting with people.

Travis honed her skills and passion by founding her own consulting firm in 2001, while simultaneously earning her MBA from Seattle University.  At around the same time Travis’ father Ray had become a partner at Pepper Bridge Winery and Amavi Cellars.

Inspired by the community she saw forming in Walla Walla and the excitement building around the developing wine region, Travis made the move from Seattle in the early 2000s and expanded her consulting business to include wineries. Travis had no intention of joining the family business, but on the eve of a big pitch to a competing winery, life threw a curve-ball her way. Her father called and asked her to join the Pepper Bridge Winery and Amavi Cellars teams. While she was even more independent then as she was when she was younger, she was still just as adventurous too.  She took a leap of faith and accepted her father’s offer.

Nonetheless, Travis never envisioned herself growing up to be simply the boss’s daughter, so after a few years, she bought into the wineries and became a partner in both in Pepper Bridge Winery and Amavi Cellars in her own right.  Though she is mainly on the road introducing people to the wines, she helps with production whenever she can, getting her hands dirty during harvest and learning all she can from winemaker and friend Jean-François Pellet.

Travis is a Certified Sommelier (via the Court of Master Sommeliers) and continues to further her wine education whenever possible.  A side project that is close to her heart is working behind the scenes at TEXSOM, the nation’s pre-eminent gathering of wine professionals known for its promotion of wine education and spirit of camaraderie.

In many ways her path has come back to where it began, with travel, meeting new people and yes, the business of adult beverages.  Travis splits her time between Bozeman, MT and Walla Walla. In her free time, she loves to indulge in outdoor recreation.
