Summer 2010 News

Some great news, a teary goodbye, and three invitations

Goodbye, Hagrid. 2001-2010
The move into our wonderful new facility coincided with another momentous change:  We lost our beloved mascot, Hagrid the black German Shepherd.  You may remember him as Ray and Diana's “son” and Travis' “brother” or simply as the gentle giant who greeted you during special events.  After almost nine joyous years on this earth, he was reluctantly put to rest due to complications with an infection.  We miss him dearly and invite you celebrate his joy for life with us.

An invitation (#1)-- Saturday October 2nd

Hagrid's trainer, author Susan Overfield (Saturday Dogs), has offered to host one of her nationally acclaimed BOSS dog clinics for the Amavi family in remembrance of him.  Her methods are NOT fear-based, and the shelter dogs she works with have a 100% adoption rate.  She will show you how your dog or puppy can have good manners WITHOUT repeated dog-obedience classes.  Based on dog psychology/communication and dog behavioral modification for both the owner and dog, the class will teach you how to tap into your pet’s natural responses in order to achieve the greatest consistency of behavior.

Sound too good to be true?  Check out her training with your own eyes:

Please note that this class is appropriate for canines of all ages with mild bad manners to severe disobedience issues.  You are invited to join us at a rate  of $140 per dog/puppy for a full-day clinic in Walla Walla.  (Club members receive a special price of $99).  Would you and your best friend be interested in joining us on Saturday, October 2?  Please RSVP by calling  509-525-3541  or e-mailing  If there is interest, we will host another class on Sunday, Ocotber 3. Also, be sure to check the bottom of this newsletter for two more exciting invitations!

  • AMAVI Syrah  2007    Score: 90 | $28

Dense and chewy, not heavy, but firmly packed with dark berry and currant fruit surrounded by a swarm of tannin and hints of coffee and dried sage. Solid finish. 1,736 cases made.  More acclaim here.

October 1-3, local artist Todd Telander will be hosting an "en plein" (outside) art workshop at three locations across the Walla Walla Valley. One of those locations will be the deck of our tasting room, where the subject matter will be our surounding landscape.

For the past twenty years, Todd has made his living as a freelance artist, and he was awarded an artist's residency at Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.  He typically paints with oil;  however, he welcomes students to bring their preferred mediums.  The cost for the three-day class is $200.  To view more of Todd's artwork, visit his website.  For more information on the class, e-mail or call: /509-540-0068.
