2012 Wrap Up
From the Winemaker: The 2012 Vintage
2012 is shaping up to be a fantastic vintage. Spring brought us more precipitation than usual, followed by a hot, dry summer. According to the growing curve for our area, we were actually right where we wanted to be in terms of average heat units received. We got plenty of warm days without it being overly hot, and that is exactly what the grape vines like. Fruit started coming in on September 19 and we were finished October 23. Contrary to the smaller yields pulled in from the climactically challenging 2010 and 2011 vintages, 2012 boasted our largest harvest so far! As Winemaker Jean François Pellet said, “In 2012 we made a lot of wine— a lot of good wine.” And with beautiful fruit like this, our small lots are sure to sell out as quickly as always; keep your eyes peeled for releases!
Holidays, Ringing in the New Year
Fall is a festive time which presents many opportunities to attend events here at Amavi Cellars. Fall Release and Winter Barrel (respectively) weekends are a great time to come bask in the merriment of the season and try the most current of our releases. Mother Nature cooperated with us this year, enabling more people than we’ve seen in years to flock to Walla Walla and enjoy the offerings. Winter Barrel this year featured live music and owner Diana Goff’s famous Rancher’s Stew—and believe us, this simple yet decadent beef stew was the hit of the Southside over the course of this cold weekend! Missed out on the Amavi Cellars fun this year? Well, make plans now to join us for one of these big weekends in 2013, as lodging is booking already.
And on that note…Happy New Year from our families to yours! We hope that your holiday season was filled with all things merry and bright, and thank you all for your continued support and enthusiasm. We couldn’t do what we do without you all, and look forward to what the future has in store.

To kick off the Summer of 2012, a photograph of the tasting room was chosen as the title page shot for an article on Eastern Washington Wine in Sunset Magazine, and subsequently brought an influx of guests like we’ve never seen. And with acclaim like the following continually pouring in about our wines, it’s easy to understand what keeps the rest of you all coming back. The San Francisco Chronicle says we will “remain a top deal in Cabernet” in reference to our 2009 vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon, which also earned a Double Gold recognition from both the Seattle Wine Awards and Wine Press Northwest. This complex vintage is almost sold out, so if you want some, be sure to contact us now!
